Puffin

And on the west coast and far up the east coast there are Puffin's. According to Wikipedia Puffins have brightly colored beaks during breeding season. They feed primarily by diving in the water. They breed in large colonies on coastal cliffs or offshore islands, nesting in crevices among rocks or in burrows in the soil. They are found in the North Pacific Ocean and North Atlantic Ocean.

Two owls babysitting

Owls are my favorite subject. I have one or the other owl streaming on the computer 24/7. Right now Pot Plant Owl is the one I watch. She and papa have 2 owlets that have grown pretty big. One of them jumped out of the nest and can't figure out how to get back up. However, he gets fed and taken care of and there is an owl box that he stands on waiting for mama or papa to come bring him his dinner. You can hear papa hooting in the background at times.

Crochet Dolls

The Girls have their hats on and they are going out for the day. This is my first crochet dolls. I crocheted their hats and dresses and their flower embellishments. Then embroidered the faces and added a bit of felted hair. Yes, they do, none of my dollies leave without pantaloons. They will be shown at the Doll Group.

ASG 4 Projects

Finally, I have 4 projects (all new design) completed for the ASG meeting tomorrow using a brown bag fabric exchange. I designed and made a bag/purse; an art doll; and 2 owl pillows. The bag strap needs hardware yet, but the straps are on. I quilted, embellished, crocheted, felted and embroidered. It was fun, but takes time. I would have done more, but time to quit and go to meeting tomorrow.

New Project

ASG had a brown bag fabric (and embellishment) exchange back in the Spring. We have to utilize the fabric and bring it for Show & Tell this month. I am just now working on mine. The fabric is pretty and I like it, but it didn't speak to me. Finally, a new art doll pattern came into my head and a bag, so that's what I am making. I decided to quilt the doll dress and the bag before putting them together. This is a collage of thread ideas for the Back of the doll (unseen). I finally figured out how to work with the metallic threads. That was giving me fits. The (hand) quilting raised little puffs (left curl) on the dress (backed with batting). I think the metallic will be fine, the variegated thread colors did not work so well (don't like the pink in it). Just a preview of what is to come.

Another 4 Witchlet Dolls

The Big quilt show and shopping was fantastic Saturday. Will put up pictures soon. I have completed the 4 witch dolls. Their hats were crocheted. Don't worry about the spider that sat down beside them, they love spiders. I have a number of other projects waiting in the wings. . . . including a smelly roof coming up shortly. . . . no peace and quiet then.. . . I need total peace and quiet to create.

Wall Hanging Per-Haps?

I've never quilted, I have made a wall hanging with a ME doll which is my current avatar to this blog. When I went to Keepsake, I purchased fabric that I took to BEE. Katy auditioned it. And this is the result. It makes a pretty good picture. I am not quite sure what to do next. The sky is filled with birds, there are quilts on the line in the pictures, the flowers are gorgeous and there is a bit of grass under the flowers. What do you think?

Joplin Clothes for School

American Sewing Guild/Ft. Lauderdale of which Palm Beach County is a member. We all sewed dresses and other school clothes for the children of the Joplin, MO tornado devastation. "The" Kitchen Drawer

Someone somewhere suggested cleaning out "the" Kitchen drawer. I began taking everything out (whoops, I thought that box would be big enough). Of course, what I keep in the drawer and what will go back are the different booklets for all the small appliances (recipes, how to if. . .). . . and extension cords. Who knows where the extra extension cords are? I Do, always. This comes in hand at Christmas time.
Does anyone know, are they still taking Betty Crocker coupons off the box tops??? I obtained my silverware with these coupons. Ok, they are 10 and more years old!!!!
Sometimes, there comes a point when the right box comes in, it is time to clean out something that fits the box.. . . right??

Keepsake Quilting Center Harbor, NH

My main reason for visiting NH was to see my girlfriend and her family. One of the happenstances for me was the annual sale for Keepsake Quilting and a happy surprise Knitting shoppe (huge) right next door. The "Sale" included both stores. I wasn't aware there were 2 happy stores (for me to peruse). I met another girlfriend (we flew up together, she to see her mum). The three of us had a wonderful, fulfilling time together. Of course my girlfriends became friends too - always a happy day when your friends like your other friends and you can all have a great time together.
There are other shops in the area to see. We walked around the 'town' and peeked in at least a half dozen shops. We walked to the cafe at the bottom of the hill on the lake and had a delicious wrapped sandwich. Sam & Rosies Cafe and Bakery. Decked out in latest Nascar pictures. Progressive is certainly a word I would use for NH food.

We walked around the park and the Gazebo where we all posed for pics.
Everywhere I looked there were mountains and Lake Winnipesaukee all around me.
A beautiful, fun experience. One that I hope to have here again.

New Hampshire vacation

I am still unloading pictures from my wonderful June NH vacation. The first day we went to a quilt shop in Henniker NH (My favorite). The town is small and friendly. The shop has beautiful fabric, lots of it, a two-story quilt shop, wow.
The last day we went to Hampton Beach and all the beaches up and down the east coast. From Hampton to Rye, where I met the cute guy and the yellow cottage. New Hampshire has a lot to offer. . . .

Working on Pillows

Completed the Red White and Blue (July 4) Star accent pillow and the Starfish accent pillow. Anyone who loves the sea will want one of these. It is 8 inches, tiny, but a memory catcher. Both are crocheted (both sides). I have a much smaller Red White and Blue matching sachet. Lovely, Lovely rain we've been having. Don't know if it's enough to fill up the drinking water we don't have in West Palm Beach, but we are in our stormy season now for real. We just have to remember not to plan afternoons out. Pickity Place, Nutting Hill Road, Mason NH

Monday, June 6 Jeanine and I went to a place where the wolf is in Grandma's bed in Grandma's house. Little Red Riding Hood is no where to be found. The grounds are beautiful, they grow their own herbs, and the butterflies are abundant. The 5-course luncheon was delicious. We had Tomato Herb Spread, Parmesan Herb Bread, Creamy Broccoli w/Smoked Gouda soup; Spinach Flan w/Carmalized Vidalia Onions; Sesame Green Beans and for dessert Strawberry and Chocolate Custard Tart. The Mocha coffee was a terrific after luncheon drink. To drink with the luncheon we had Lavender Lemonade. Judy, Jeanine's friend came with us.
We met a gal who had brought her pet crow with her. He was adorable, I had no idea crows could be so friendly.

Happy Father's Day to all the Dad's - they are so special. My daddy will be 95 July 31. Par-Tay.
I love the memories of the past (Mom worked some Sunday's and that was our day to see a movie and go to Steak & Shake for lunch). We lived in the Town Steak & Shake was first born - Normal, IL. My hometown. Daddy loved science fiction movies, therefore, I know all about aliens and brain implants, well, it was that time and those days and it was cherished memories.
Today daddy still likes Steak and Shake (milkshakes) but Belgian Waffles are on the menu too.
Daddy was born in Clinton, IL. Richard Clinton Warrick.

June 2, 2011 New Hampshire my first full day.

Tornadoes in MA - yep, I was an hour late getting into the airport in Manchester because the plane had to go around the bad weather. They tore up Springfield, MA pretty good. If the other plane had not gotten into Baltimore late, I would not have arrived at all that night. As it was, Patti and hoofed it to the next gate for our next plane and watched it taxi into the area just as we arrived. They turn around these planes quickly and we were on our way. That night it was unbelievably hot (they had a heat wave of only 3 days out of the 14 I was there). The windows were open (no a/c) and by early morning the cool was so cool coming in that a single sheet was not enough cover. Whew, that was refreshing and beautiful. My two new best friends Mario, the Cat (this one took awhile to friend) - He has a cute pink nose and his favorite spot is on the chair back; and Bear, the pups - she has 'bear ears' - yes really, Beautiful pups, the best doggie, I was her friend and she mine immediately w/o hesitation. Can you tell she's waiting for food to drop ;) The mountains are beautiful, no, they are Awesome, gadz. We were up into the mountains when I took the picture, so it's a bit hard to tell. I was in love with the place the minute we took a ride (well, actually, the minute I felt the cool air the night before :) Hot FL does not get cool ever, until Nov. or Dec. Blessings, Janet

Today I would have been married 51 years. Yes, I was a child bride. The First Baptist Church downtown Bloomington, Il is where I was married. Mom and daddy sure look young. My Sister, Bonnie, was very young. The best man is driving the car Monte Quinn. Sharon Phelan was the maid of honor. Everyone is still alive, except hubby, Mel; his parents and my mom. Yellow Cottage by the water

I did find a not so yellow cottage, but it was Not by the water - can't flood the area beside it either to make my own lake, well, I love the area and the little cottage is wonderful. My Weekend: Shopping

I hate to shop. I love to be with my friends. Some of them do like to shop, or at least find a new place. Boca is a new place to shop. There is a great *new quilt shop. . . Three Crafty Quilters (the original store is Three Crafty Ladies on Sanibel Island). Definitely a store worth the visit.
We shopped at Nordstrom's Rack. Anything Betsy Johnson has my attention and the earrings definitely had my attention.
We found a Goodwill Boutique. Right a boutique, this was an experience. Many name brands for $7, $9 and $14. Sometimes the original price tag was still attached. Amazing. A gold evening purse caught my eye. What am I going to do with it?? Is it a purchase I wish I had always had, or is it a wish for the future, or. . . . Well, guess I'll have to find an evening "do" and attend. Or why not just carry it every other day and enjoy it. What did you do over the weekend? I really want to know. Blessings, Janet

Always family day - so far Grands are all still home. We celebrated in Ft. Lauderdale with family, including 2 dogs and a cat. Grandson learned new song by heart and played for family. Chris will be graduating and going off to the Air Force this fall. Kayla borrowed a dress for the prom. Meg is the Volleyball Queen, Stephane makes watercolor or pastel pictures, and adorable characters. Amanda draws, paints with makers and makes incredible videos. Andrew is the wizard of IT, even Apple approves of him working on their products. Blessings, Janet

My Grandson has a birthday. Andrew is 20 today. Tam manages a 20 candle rice krispie cake. Fun and games, yep, he received a couple of games. You are never to old for games, yep one was electronic (with batteries), gotcha, you that computer!!! Old fashioned games. The way it use to be.

Pillowcases completed 24

Time is up. I ran out of time, but I did manage to complete 24 pillowcases. Tomorrow I will turn them in at the ASG luncheon. We also have to bring a sack with the worst material we have in the world, oh boy, I wouldn't want to be that person, I did manage to find charms, beads, trim, a zipper and extras, but. .. . . This is going to be fun!

Still steady on the pillowcases. I have a full week though, don't know how many more I can do before Monday the 18th. You do realize you can help too. Any quilt shop that is participating will be glad to take your pillowcases. There is a website with directions and patterns, All People Quilt. This is a great way to get rid of your stash. Hi, I seem to be never idle, just not updating the blog like I should. I have completed 7 more pillowcases for the cause. I have also been making tiny appliques for some of my art quilts. I love the Ocean, Palm Trees, birds and well, I am in Palm Tree country. I recently learned that the SW corner of Scotland and the south of England have Palm Trees. Now there is a trip I have to make. Oh, but do notice the owl in the palm tree, just for Me. I also have a hummer, but not the right flower for her. Blessings, Janet

Pillowcase update

I am successfully getting rid of my stash by making pillowcases for the cancer kids for my neighborhood ASG (American Sewing Guild) in N. Palm Beach. My goal is to make 1 pillowcase a day (since the meeting last Monday). Our next meeting will be April 18. So far I have completed 9 pillowcases. As far as I'm concerned I am not ahead, I'm still going to do 1 a day but if I cut out more and get them sewn up, they are extra. My time is most important to this project until the deadline. Pillowcases for cancer kids

I don't mean to be too busy for you. I enjoy your visits and comments. Thank you. I have taken two quilt show trips and promise I will show pictures. I have two owl pillows with crochet tops and appliques and cute owl print fabric on the back. The main issue of the month (due April 18 at the ASG - American Sewing Guild) is the pillowcases we are all doing for the cancer kids. I decided to make 1 a day. I made my first one Thursday and cut 3 more out today for the weekend. I wanted to do this last year (1M challenge) but didn't get it done, since they extended it, I'm doing it. The ASG will be having a cookbook come out and that should be fun. I have entered a recipe. Have a great week. Blessings, Janet

St. Patricks Day dolls part II

I am still making Green dolls. These are dancing dolls that can be used as a pin, as an ornament or just a doll you may need to have in your pocket. We all need to tell our secrets to someone, might as well be our own doll. I even made a Blank, that's a doll that needs to be dressed by You. Every one needs a doll for one reason or another. I know you understand that.

Owl Family

I still have 2 gals on my sewing table 1/2 put together. I have been busy with a new owl family. Mom grew up and found a mate and had an owlet. Sister grew up didn't find a mate and became a tart (trying to get a mate). See what I mean. These owls have been so fun to design and think up. I am finding the time to be creative instead of just sewing/crocheting/knitting and I love every minute of it. I hope you enjoy them too.

Pin Dolls

Heart Pillow - Valentines Day

The week before my girlfriend and I went to an Art Fair at City Place. The Methodist church where I worked when I first moved to West Palm Beach is a focal point. So much of the area has changed. Tambra's Birthday

I finally got the 2nd Ladder scarf (the wider one) finished the day before the birthday. I still have one more to make that is more colorful. The first one is an Italian Ladder Yarn with gray in it. The second one is all black. The third one has the colors of the rainbow. She is quite happy with the two I have made. In fact, I was working on the black one at Bee and my girlfriend Patti put in that the black one she wants for her birthday. At least I have 11 months to make that one. I ordered the yarn from Turkey, can't get it here - it's discontinued according to Lion Brand. So, now I go out of country to purchase. I got it in 2-days. Yep, I upgraded, or as you can see, I would never have finished it in time.

Another owl came to visit. He decided to put in an appearance just for you - notice the muffler. It's very very cold here (broke another record) - Now wait a minute, we do not need to break records especially with our fantastic farmers and their crops that we need to sustain us through the winter. Global warming is having a freezing time in So. FL. I think maybe global warming is in fact turning the world upside down. It warm at the North Pole and Cold in So. FL - go figure. . . 3 New Kats in Town

Look what blew into town to celebrate the holidays. They have their mufflers on because it is very cold and going to become very much colder. Kats are looking for a new home. I have no fireplace and no furnace. They are tiny kitties, 2 1/2 inches. Perfect ornaments or windowsill kats.
